Hemingford claims a spot at One Act State Championships

Hemingford clinched a spot at the state championships in Norfolk with a victory at the Class C2-6 District competition Monday. Hemingford's play this year is titled "Rosie the Riveter."
The Bobcats One Act crew were ranked first by two judges and second by the other at the competition. Other panhandle schools in the district, Morrill and Kimball, finished third and seventh, respectively.
According to the NSAA, this is the first time Hemingford has qualified for state since 2015 when the school placed third.
Hemingford will perform at the state competition at Norfolk High School on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 5:15 p.m.
Tuesday, Leyton, Garden County and South Platte competed at the D1-6 District competition. It was Stapleton, however, who came out on top to clinch the state bid. South Platte finished in the runner up spot while Leyton earned fourth and Garden County sixth.
In Class D2, Potter-Dix, Creek Valley, Banner County, Hay Springs and Sioux County will compete at the D2-6 District competition alongside Ansley and Hyannis. They will compete Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Creek Valley High School.
Also Wednesday, Bayard, Mitchell and Gordon-Rushville will take the stage in North Platte for the C1-6 crown. Also competing in the district are Sutherland, Chase County, Gibbon and Hershey.
Friday, Bridgeport will compete in Wood River as part of the C1-5 District.
In Class B, Sidney will face off against McCook, Alliance, Gothenburg, Aurora, Gering, Chadron and Valentine for the B-6 title in Gothenburg.
Scottsbluff will travel to Lincoln Saturday to compete in the A-3 District competition.
In One Acts, also known as Play Production, schools in Classes B-D2 that win their districts advance to the state championships. In Class A, the top two schools from each district advance because there are only three district as opposed to six in the rest of the classes.
The NSAA Play Production Championships will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 through Friday, Dec. 10 in Norfolk. Classes D1 and D2 will go Wednesday followed by C1 and C2 on Thursday. Classes A and B will wrap up the season on Friday.
