Lady Raiders in Championship, Raiders Fall in Semis
The Sidney Lady Raiders turned a 2-point halftime lead into a 20-point blowout in the second half to advance to the championship game of the Western Conference Invitational Tournament at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff on Friday night.
SCOTTSBLUFF - The Sidney Lady Raiders turned a 2-point halftime lead into a 20-point blowout in the second half to advance to the championship game of the Western Conference Invitational Tournament at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff on Friday night. Sidney outscored Chadron 29-13 after intermission to earn a 50-32 win over the Cardinals.
Alecca Cambell led the way for Sidney with 13 points while Reese Riddle chipped in 11 points for the win. Sidney will face Scottsbluff at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the championship game at WNCC. The Bearcats advanced with a 59-50 win over Mitchell.
The Sidney Red Raiders will play for third place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning after dropping a hard-fought contest to the Sterling Tigers on Friday night. Trailing 33-21 at intermission, Sidney made a second half run to cut the Tiger lead to 40-32 midway through the third quarter. But the Tigers exploded at the three-point line to outscore the Red Raiders 19-6 and take control of the game.
Sophomore Isak Doty led the Sidney with 15 points on 5 three-pointers. Sawyer Dickman chipped in 12 points for the Raiders. Sidney will meet Chadron for third place after the Cardinals fell to Scottsbluff 67-45 in the first semifinal of the day.
