Lady Raiders Beat Alliance for Coach Tyler Shaw’s 250th Win

The Sidney Lady Raiders gave head coach Tyler Shaw an early birthday present on Saturday night. The 250th win of his coaching career, with a 59-43 win over the Alliance Lady Bulldogs at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility.

SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raiders gave head coach Tyler Shaw an early birthday present on Saturday night. The 250th win of his coaching career, with a 59-43 win over the Alliance Lady Bulldogs at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. In 16 seasons at the helm of the Lady Raiders, coach Shaw is now 250-111, a .693 winning percentage. He has led the Lady Raiders to 7 state tournament appearances, including the last 5 in a row.

Sidney’s full court pressure disrupted a taller Alliance team from the opening tip, forcing 11 first quarter turnovers, on the way to a 17-8 lead after the first eight minutes. The Lady Raiders saw Alliance close the gap to just three, 21-18, going into intermission.

Sidney took control in the third period. Coming out of halftime, the Lady Raiders full-court man-to-man pressure began trapping the Bulldogs. Once again Sidney forced 11 Alliance turnovers in the period, but this time outscored the Bulldogs 21-2 to open a 42-20 lead after three quarters.

In the game, Sidney forced Alliance into 33 turnovers and had 28 deflections to improve to 5-1 on the season. Alecca Campbell led the Lady Raiders with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Gabrielle Fortner added 10 points off the bench.

The Sidney Red Raiders outscored Alliance in every period, and dominated the Bulldogs on the boards, to come away with a 68-43 Western Conference win on Saturday to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Raiders got 11 first-half points from Jacob Dowse and a trio of three-pointers from Isak Doty to open up a double-digit lead at halftime 36-25.

Sidney’s defense held Alliance’s leading scorer, Kellen Muhr (18.5 ppg) scoreless after halftime, and just 10 points in the game, as the Raiders pulled away in the final period for a 25-point win.

Senior Jacob Dowse led the Raiders with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Isak Doty tallied 16 points while senior Wyatt Heckenlively chipped in 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Sidney is back on the road Tuesday, December 21st when they travel to Holdrege to battle the Dusters.
