Strong second quarter pushes Alliance to victory

After a close start, the Alliance Bulldogs pulled away rapidly and defeated the Sioux County Warriors 53-19 Thursday night.

The men were tied at five early in the contest before the Bulldogs inched ahead by five. Alliance then turned on the heat as time ran out in the second quarter and took a 27-11 lead into the break. The Bulldogs did not let up in the second half, sinking 14 and 12 in the final two quarters.

Tucker Monroe accounted for nearly all of the Warriors offensive production, making 17 of the team’s 19 points. Shane Gluth added the other bucket in the second quarter.

Bulldogs squeeze past Warriors

The Sioux County Warriors dropped a 55-51 nailbiter to the Alliance Bulldogs Thursday for their third loss of the season.

The contest was close throughout, with the ladies tied at 10 after the first quarter. Alliance inched ahead with a 15-10 run in the second for a 25-20 advantage going into the break. Two treys and three free throws by Britney Klein and Beth Krein accounted for nine of Sioux County’s 13 third quarter points to give the Warriors a 33-32 lead as the fourth quarter began.

Kailey Klein netted 10 points for the Warriors in the final eight minutes, including an eight-of-10 showing at the free throw line. In spite of scoring 18 in the final stand, the Warriors still fell short, as Alliance netted 23 to take the win.

Alliance went 14-of-23 from the charity stripe, while the Warriors left enough points on the floor to change the outcome, shooting 21-of-39 from the line.

The Klein sisters teamed up for 30 of Sioux County’s points, with Kailey making 16 and Britney sinking 14. Jaelynne Clarke led the Bulldogs with 17.
