Vehicle accident claims two lives in Box Butte County

The Nebraska State Patrol reported a traffic fatality about 15 miles west of Hemingford on Highway 71 at approximately 4:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15.

HEMINGFORD - The Nebraska State Patrol reported a traffic fatality about 15 miles west of Hemingford on Highway 71 at approximately 4:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14.

Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas says Hattie Hanks, 53, of Crawford, and passenger, Rylee Hanks, 27, of Chadron, both were pronounced dead at the scene. Hattie was the mother of Rylee.

An infant passenger was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident and was transported to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

According to the investigation, the Honda Pilot the Hanks were in was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and collided with a westbound Ford F-150. 

The driver of the F-150 was also transported to Regional West with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Hattie Hanks was a beautician and owner of Excellence in Crawford and the Outback Beauty Salon in Harrison. 

The crash remains under investigation.
