SIDNEY, NE — An annual summer event celebrating Sidney's heritage is in serious need of more help, according to organizers.

Sidney Gold Rush Days officials are asking the public for help to fill several volunteer positions still open for this year's event. They're worried that without more help, Gold Rush Days may become a thing of the past.

"Many people have come and gone since it originated in 2004 and may [sic] fade away into history unless enough people volunteer to pitch in to keep it going," the Sidney Gold Rush Days  committee president Ken Geu wrote in a Facebook post.

Geu wrote in the post that essentially all officer, coordinator and general labor positions are open and need to be filled. Some positions only require involvement leading up to the festival while others work during the festival. Some volunteer spots require both helping in the lead up to and during the festival.

If you are interested in helping out, you are asked to contact the Sidney Gold Rush Days committee by emailing contact@sidneygoldrushdays.org.

A full list of officer, coordinator and general volunteer positions still available at sidneygoldrushdays.org.

"Unfortunately, some tasks should have already been taken care of by now, such as entertainer selection, so time is of the essence," Geu wrote.

Sidney Gold Rush Days is held at Sidney's Legion Park the second weekend in June. The festival showcases the history of the Sidney to Deadwood Gold Rush trail.
