Chadron Mayor Mark Werner delivered the annual State of the City address at last night’s city council meeting, declaring that the city is “doing well.”

It wasn’t a formal speech and Werner, officially the council president, says it was never intended to be a speech.

He says it was always planned as a way to look at Chadron’s progress over the last year in a variety of areas and explore what may lie ahead.

Werner focused on 5 areas drawn from the city’s decade-old comprehensive plan: downtown revitalizations, having vibrant neighborhoods, a diversified economy, city finances, and having a special sense of place.

Werner said good progress has been made on all 5, but with plenty of work remaining – more in some areas than others.
