WNCC Theatre Arts launching Spring Performing Arts season

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - The Western Nebraska Community College Theatre Arts program is set to start the Spring 2022 Performing Arts season with a showing of The Furies by Aeschylus on Feb. 25-27 at the Platte Valley Companies Performing Arts Center.

The Furies is focused on the chase, capture, and trial of Orestes for the murder of his mother. The story is the first recorded instance of a trial by jury in western history.

"It is considered a classic Greek tragedy, but ends rather well for all parties," Violette Briggs, WNCC theatre instructor said. "We are excited to bring this story to life and get the spring season underway."

The show will premiere on Friday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Judy Chaloupka Theater. Saturday's show will follow suite, also at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee will start at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are available for purchase at wncc.edu/performingarts. General Admission tickets are $10, student/senior/military tickets are $5. Group discounts (10+ tickets) are also available.

The Furies is the first of six scheduled live performances for the spring semester. Patrick Newell and the vocal music department will be showcased at the annual Spring Gala on April 1-2 at the Gering Civic Center. The Spring Band Concert will be held on April 24 in the Judy Chaloupka Theater, and the theatre department will be back in action on April 29 - May 1 for the Spring Play. The month of May will feature an Honors Recital on May 7 for instrumental music students, and the annual Jump, Jive, and Swing, on May 8.
