SIDNEY - A Sidney man is in jail Wednesday after he was seen throwing bricks at businesses, homes and a church.

Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens says Charles VanVleet, 32, of Sidney, was arrested on felony criminal mischief charges. VanVleet is accused of throwing bricks at windows at four different locations, including Sidney Regional Medical Center. The first call came at 12:41 p.m.

Witnesses at the hospital said a man walked inside, turned around and threw a brick at the window of the second entrance door. The brick bounced off the window and VanVleet picked it back up and threw it again. The second throw broke the window and caused between $1,000 and $2,000 in damages.

VanVleet was arrested outside the Cheyenne County Sheriff's office where he planned to throw another brick through their window. A note from VanVleet left on the sheriff's building window was unreadable.

Aikens says VanVleet may have been upset over a child custody issue. He's unaware if VanVleet was under the influence of drugs or other substances.

The investigation continues.
