Both Leyton and South Platte got off to a slow starts in the girls D2-11 Sub-District championship game in Big Springs on Thursday. When the final horn sounded, the Blue Knights were headed for a District Final with a 55-27 win, and the Lady Warriors were headed home.

Neither team seemed to find their rhythm offensively in the first quarter with each team turning the ball over multiple times. The Warriors jumped out to an early lead, which they maintained through most of the period. South Platte’s first lead came late in the quarter to give the Blue Knights a 9-8 advantage after the first eight minutes.

The second period was still an offensive struggle, especially for Leyton. An Axi Benish three-pointer was all the scoring that the Warriors could muster. South Platte senior Taylyn Bauer paced the Blue Knight offense with 6 second-quarter points to send the Blue Knights into intermission with a 20-11 halftime lead.

South Platte came out of the locker room a different team in the second half. The Blue Knights turned up the defense, which fueled their offense. South Platte poured in 21 points while holding Leyton to just 9 third-quarter points, giving the Knights a 41-20 lead heading to the final stanza.

South Platte stretched their advantage to 35-points midway through the fourth quarter and cruised to a 55-27 Sub-District win. The game finished with a total of 8 personal fouls called and only 4 free throws taken. South Platte now will wait and see who they will face in a District Final next Friday.
