Bridgeport downs Sutton, advances to C2 semis

LINCOLN, NE — In a game in which the Lady Bulldogs never trailed, Bridgeport defeated the Sutton Fillies 55-35 in the C2 State Quarterfinals Tuesday night.
Bridgeport held Sutton to just 10 points in the first half while scoring 12 points in each of the first two quarters. At the break, the Lady Bulldogs held a 24-10 advantage.
The Bulldogs largest lead of the night was 26 early in the fourth quarter before Sutton somewhat trimmed it down. Bridgeport gave up just 18 points through the first three quarters of play before calling off the dogs in the fourth.
Bridgeport was led by Ruthie Loomis-Goltl who had 24 points. That puts the junior over 1,500 points in her career (1,503 to be exact). Her younger sister Olivia Loomis-Goltl finished with 19 points. The sophomore just needs four more to pass the 1,000 career point mark.
Bridgeport also got five points from Natalie Keenan-Vergil, three from Mackenzie Liakos and two a piece from Brooklyn Mohrman and Paige Schmunk.
Julia George paced Sutton who finished with 12 points, including 11 in the second half. The Fillies also got nine in the game from Alivia Huxoll.
The Lady Bulldogs advance to the C2 Semifinals Thursday afternoon when they will face Oakland-Craig. The seventh-seeded Knights upset Guardian Angels Central Catholic 60-53 to earn a spot in the semis.

Sutton's season ends at 22-5.
