NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- A person remains missing after a fire Thursday night fire in Lincoln County.
The North Platte Police Department says it was called to the scene after reports of gunshots in the area of Rodeo Road and Carr on Thursday night just before 11:00 p.m.
Chief of Police Steve Reeves says callers reported hearing gunshots and fireworks going off.
Upon arrival, officers found a small fire in the building. The officers ordered a man, 37-year-old Jerome F. Vieyra, to leave the building, but he refused and went back in, NPPD said.
Authorities secured the building after getting information that there was a large amount of fireworks inside.
Approximately an hour later, the building was fully engulfed in flames.
Vieyra was last seen inside the building.
Late Friday afternoon, the North Platte Fire Marshall reported that their investigation did not lead to the recovery of Vieyra, the owner of the property.
Vieyra is a suspect in the arson fire. At this time, Jerome has been entered into the National Crime Information Center as an endangered missing person. Jerome is 5’10”, 190 lbs, brown eyes and black hair.
