Sidney Girls Win Mitchell Track Invite

The Sidney girls track team won seven events and had two athletes set personal bests on the way to the team title at the Mitchell Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday.

MITCHELL – The Sidney girls track team won seven events and had two athletes set personal bests on the way to the team title at the Mitchell Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday. The Raiders, who had several athletes returning to competition from injury, outdistanced Chadron for top honors.

First place winners for Sidney were Gabby Fortner in the 200 Meter (:27.33), Talissa Tanquary in the 800 Meter (2:31.09), Chloe Ahrens in the 100 Meter Hurdles (:15.96), Karsyn Leeling in the High Jump (5’5”) and Long Jump (16’11½”), Rheagan Stanley in the Pole Vault (8’6”), and the 4x100 Meter Relay team of Chloe Ahrens, Gabrielle Fortner, Payton Schrotburger, and Kayla Westby (:52.43).

Personal Best performances were turned in by Payton Schrotberger in the 100 Meter with a time of :13.58 to finish in 4th and Deanna Horst in the Long Jump with a leap of 14’9½“, which earned her 6th place.

The Red Raider boys suffered their first loss of the season when Chadron outscored Sidney by one half point for the team title. Sidney captured eight first place medals and six second place finishes to total 154 points on the day. The Cardinals won 23 medals in 17 events to edge out Sidney with 154.5 points.

Sophomore Luke Holly (:11.28), sophomore Isak Doty (:11.29), and senior Sawyer Dickman (:11.52) went 1-2-3 in the 100 Meter, all running their personal best times. Mitch Deer once again improved his personal best in the 400 Meter, winning in a time of :50.21. Daniel Bashtovoi ran his fastest time of the season in winning the 800 Meter in 2:04.12 and Cameron Brauer captured the 1600 Meter in 4:42.96. Sawyer Dickman won the High Jump by clearing 6’1” and Sidney swept all three Relays.
