NJC notes: Northeastern's Matt Campbell Takes 1st Place
Northeastern men's golf team hit the road this past week to play in the Central Wyoming College golf tournament hosted in Riverton.
Northeastern men's golf team hit the road this past week to play in the Central Wyoming College golf tournament hosted in Riverton. NJC has been playing pretty well during the Spring season and added another 2nd place finish behind the Region leading Eastern Wyoming College. Plainsman Matt Campbell took 1st place in the tournament with a final score of 4-under par over the two days (71-69). That was Matt's biggest win for the season as he shot 3 strokes better than the next player. NJC's final regular season tournament will take place this Thursday (April 28th) and Friday (April 29th) in Torrington, Wyoming as they play in the Eastern Wyoming College golf tournament. Northeastern has played well enough this Spring to qualify for the National Tournament in Odessa, Texas, which is slated to begin on May 10th.

Rattlers Take 3 of 4 From Plainswomen

Northeastern softball was on the road this past weekend as they battled conference rival Otero College. NJC has been struggling a bit as of late and was no different in the series against the Rattlers. With only one weekend left in the regular season, the Plainswomen again will be on the road to face conference rival Trinidad State College in a 4-game series. As it stands, NJC still has a chance to capture second place in the Region. Games this weekend take place on Saturday, April 30th at 1pm & 3pm and again on Sunday, May 1st at 11am and 1pm.
(Game Recap 4/23) Plainswomen vs. Otero College = Loss 6-2
Breakdown: A 5-run 5th inning was all it took for the Rattlers to beat the Plainswomen. Sara Lynch was on the mound for NJC and took her 9th loss on the year. 4 errors and 4 walks on top of the 6 strikeouts was enough to wreck her complete game as the offense couldn't help her out. Centerfielder Mia Glover went 3-3 from the plate with a double and a homerun. She was the only Plainswoman who had any kind of production from the plate during the loss to the Rattlers.

Breakdown: Game called in 5 innings. NJC was flat the entire game and only managed to get 1-hit during the contest. Northeastern struck out 10 times resulting in several 3 up, 3 down situations. First baseman Katey Kelly recorded the only hit for the Plainswomen in her only at-bat, which was a double. Delaney Barrett got the start for NJC, and in her only inning pitched, she gave up 6 earned runs on 6 hits. The loss was Barrett's 8th on the year.
(Game Recap 4/24) Plainswomen vs. Otero College = Loss 8-9
Breakdown: NJC was down 9-2 before scoing 6 in the 7th inning, one shy of extending the game aginst the Rattlers. Shortstop Angelina Quezada went 3-4 from the plate, recording a triple and 2 RBI's. Rylyn Nelson also knocked in 2 RBI's. Avery Fox took the start for NJC and gave up 7 hits, had 7 earned runs, walked 4 and struck out 2. It was her 3rd loss on the season. Both teams had 12 hits, but the Otero catcher hit 2 homeruns and knocked in 5 RBI's.
(Game Recap 4/24) Plainswomen vs. Otero College = Won 10-1
Breakdown: NJC only gave up 1 run which came in the 1st inning. The rest of the game was all Plainswomen. Mia Glover recorded only 1 hit in the game, but had 3 RBI's. Sara Lynch had 2 stolen bases and knocked in a run. She also pitched in the contest and was able to get her 14th win on the season. Lynch pitched all 6 innings of the game giving her the complete game victory as she only gave up 2 hits and 1 earned run, striking out 2.
