DALTON, Neb. -- A Panhandle student-athlete will be suiting up to play college baseball next season.

Leyton senior Scout Gamble signed a letter of intent to play for York College in southeast Nebraska.

Gamble played baseball through high school with the Bridgeport Bombers American Legion Team.

Gamble said he chose York because of the small-town feel.

“The atmosphere there is very welcoming and friendly,” Gamble said. “I feel like it is kind of reflecting the same as Leyton because they’re a small community, they’re just one big family.”

Gamble said he chose to continue his baseball career because it would be easier than any other sport for him to enjoy playing while in college.

Bridgeport Bombers Baseball Coach Garrett Sigle said he will miss having Gamble on the roster.

“He’s definitely one of the better guys on the team,” Sigle said. “Fantastic athlete and baseball player. Losing him at the end of the year will be big shoes to fill.”

Sigle said this is his fourth or fifth player that is moving on to play at the college level.

“It’s everything any high school coach could ask for, their players to move onto the next level” Sigle said.
