SIDNEY, NE — A man from the west coast wanted for the murder of his wife is in custody after being found by authorities in Nebraska. 

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office in California, 52-year-old Sergio Torres has a warrant out for his arrest in the shooting of his wife, Sonia Torres. 

Authorities say Thursday night Sidney, Nebraska police pulled Sergio over for running a stop sign. A records check revealed the arrest warrant to Sidney police, who then arrested Sergio.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office says Sonia Torres was shot in Stockton, Calif. on June 4. She was taken to a hospital where she died. A police investigation determined Sergio Torres to be responsible. 

According to a social media post by the sheriff's office, the California department thanked the Sidney Police Department and said Sergio is awaiting extradition back to California to face charges.
