Sidney Survives Chase County in Four Sets

SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raiders bounced back from a second set meltdown for a 25-19, 20-25, 28-26, 25-15 win over the Chase County Longhorns Tuesday at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. Sidney, who has won six in a row after falling to C-1 #5 Gothenburg in the Cozad Invitational, improves to 10-2 on the season with the win.
Sidney jumped out to a 12-4 lead and fought off a late Chase County rally to win the first set 25-19. Sidney again built a solid lead at 11-3 in the second set but couldn’t maintain their momentum in a 25-20 loss to even the match at 1-1.
The two teams battled through the entire third set and were tied for the 12th time at 13-13. The game was tied three more times, at 24, 25, and 26 before Sidney took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 28-26 win.
The last set was all Lady Raiders. Sidney rediscovered their offense and was never challenged on the way to a 25-15 win to close out the match.
Karsyn Leeling led the Lady Raiders with 14 kills. Kayla Westby, and Gabby Fortner each finished with 10 kills for Sidney.
Sidney is back on the court on Thursday when the travel to Mitchell for the Mitchell Triangular. Sidney will play Mitchell at 4:00 p.m. followed by Gering at 5:00 p.m. Gering and Mitchell will square off in the nightcap at 6:00 p.m.
