SIDNEY, Neb. -- Authorities in the panhandle arrested two men for drug charges.

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested Jecola Presley of Nebraska and Conan Whitfield of Oklahoma were both identified by their licenses.

On Monday morning, NSP said that a trooper was heading south on Ft. Sidney Road in Sidney when they saw a Buick Park Avenue almost causing a collision.

The trooper said they then did a traffic stop on the Buick on Pole Creek Crossing west of Ft. Sidney Road.

When the trooper spoke to the driver, they identified him as Presley, and the front seat passenger as Whitefield.

NSP said the trooper reportedly smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Authorities reported that the trooper had Presley go with them to their patrol vehicle.

Once at the vehicle, the NSP said the trooper asked Presley to empty his pockets before getting into the patrol vehicle.

According to officials, Presley had removed a vape pen that had a THC cartridge in it from his left front pocket.

The trooper said that Presley immediately became agitated and pleaded with them to "throw out the marijuana and forget about it."

After getting in to the patrol vehicle, the trooper said that Presley continued to cause a scene.

Presley was reportedly screaming, crying, begging, and throwing himself around in the patrol vehicle.

The initial trooper said he asked for another trooper to help with the traffic stop.

When the other trooper arrive, it was reported that Whitefield was put into the assisting trooper's vehicle and Presley was put into the initial trooper's vehicle.

Both men were placed in the secure area of the patrol vehicles, and the troopers said they then conducted a probable cause search.

During the search, troopers said they found and seized about 3 grams methamphetamine and a meth pipe - which were found inside two lockboxes under the driver's seat, two vape pens with 1 gram THC cartridges, 17 grams of marijuana bud in a dispensary bag in a tin container, one pack of rolling papers, 5 grams of marijuana bud in a plastic baggie, one marijuana grinder, one scale, one glass container with marijuana residue, and two plastic baggies with meth residue.

The NSP said that Whitefield claimed a backpack that contained the grinder, plastic baggies with meth residue, scale, and admitted to the 5 gram marijuana baggie.

Presley and Whitefield were arrested and taken to the Cheyenne County Jail where they are being held/charged for possession of meth, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, and possession/use of paraphernalia.
