Hall of fame broadcaster from the Nebraska panhandle passes away

SCOTTSBLUFF - Gray Media Group announced the passing of a long-time broadcaster in the Nebraska Panhandle Thursday morning.

Jerry Dishong served the Scottsbluff area on television for 51 years before retiring in 2018.

"We are sad to announce the passing of Mr. Dishong," the company said in a release. "He held multiple positions throughout the years."

Dishong grew up in Gordon and attended Chadron State College. He started as a broadcaster for KDUH in Hay Springs in 1966. He and his family would follow KDUH when the company moved to Scottsbluff in 1980.

Dishong was inducted into the Nebraska Broadcaster’s Associations Hall of Fame in 2016.

Dishong was 80-years-old.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to the St. Agnes School Foundation.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering with the family at the St. Agnes School Gym on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
