Red Raiders Tip Off Winter Sports Thursday

The high school Winter sports season gets underway this week for the Sidney Lady Raiders and Red Raiders. The Sidney girls and boys basketball teams tip off their seasons at the Western Conference Invitational Tournament on Thursday while the Red Raider wrestlers open their season with a dual match at Gothenburg.

The Sidney Lady Raiders are the top seed in the girls bracket of the Western Conference Invitational Tournament. For the second straight year, the Lady Raiders will face Arvada, Colorado in the first round at Gering High School. Last year, Sidney cruised into the semifinals with a 92-10 win over the Bulldogs. Tip off at Gering is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Gering High School.

The Sidney boys basketball team is seeded second in this year’s tournament bracket, and will take on Mitchell in their first-round game. Tip off between the Red Raiders and the Tigers is set for 4:00 p.m. at Gering High School.

The Sidney wrestlers also open their season this weekend. The Red Raider begin with a dual meet at Gothenburg on Friday before heading on to Cozad for the Cozad Invitational on Saturday.
