IMPERIAL. NE. – The Lady Raiders largest lead of the game against the Chase County Longhorns Friday night in Imperial was 2-0, 1:42 into the game. Their fourth and final lead came with two seconds remaining in the game on a Kayla Westby free throw to give Sidney a 36-35 come-from-behind win to stay unbeaten at 4-0 on the season.

Sidney fought all night to keep Chase County’s 6’0” senior everything in check. Bryn McNair, who averages 26.5 points per game and leads the Longhorns in practically every statistical category, kept the Lady Raiders at arm’s length most of the night. However, McNair could only muster two of her game-high 26 points in the fourth period while Sidney was mounting a charge.

Sidney’s largest deficit of 33-25, came early in the final period. But grit and a scrappy defense ignited a Lady Raider 10-2 fourth-quarter charge that tied the game at 35 with less than a minute to go, Westby was fouled on a shot in the lane and the sophomore made one of two free throws for a 36-35 lead. Junior Chloe Ahrens then blocked and secured the Longhorns’ attempt at a full-court pass to seal the win for Sidney.

Westby led the Lady Raiders with 16 points while Sidney’s leading scorer, Reese Riddle (19.3 ppg) was held to just 9 points. McNair accounted for 26 of the Longhorn’s 35 points in the game.

The Red Raiders had a much easier time of it on Friday. Sidney nailed a trio of three pointers in the first 2:25 pf the game to jump out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back on the way to a 67-32 win over Chase County. Sidney had nine players score while holding the Longhorns to single digit totals in each of the first three quarters to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Micah Schneider led the way once again for Sidney with 14 points while Jacob Dowse added 12 points on the night.
