Raiders Overshadow Beetdiggers to Begin Homestand

SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raiders and Red Raiders swept past the Brush Beetdiggers at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility on Saturday afternoon to begin a seven game homestand. A Karsyn Leeling three-pointer with 1:22 to go in the first period gave the Lady Raiders all the points they needed in a runaway 68-15 win over Brush, while the Red Raiders outscored the Beetdiggers in every quarter to secure a 66-45 win.
The Class B number five Lady Raiders forced 12 Brush turnovers in the first quarter as Sidney opened the game with a 23-2 run and never looked back. Sidney held Brush to just two points after halftime as Karsyn Leeling’s fourth three-pointer of the game initiated the 40-point running clock with 3:55 to go in the third period.
With the win, Sidney improves to 16-1 on the season. Kayla Westeby knocked down five threes to lead 11 Lady Raiders in the scoring with 18 points. Karsyn Leeling made five of her seven shots, four of them threes, to finish with 14 points. Sidney made 13 threes in the game.
A Jacob Dowse layup :45 seconds into the game started a 10-2 Red Raider run as Sidney never trailed the Beetdiggers on the afternoon. Sidney outscored Brush in every quarter to steadily pull away for the 21-point win. Leading 28-16 at half, Sidney opened the third quarter with a 12-5 run to take a 40-23 lead.
The Red Raiders, who improve to 13-4 on the season, had three players in double figures led by Jaeden Dillehay with 16 points. Landon Riddle came off the bench to tally 12 points while Isak Doty had 10 points. Micah Schneider added nine points in the win.
Sidney returns to the hardwood on Wednesday when they host Yuma Colorado at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The game was rescheduled from January 21st and will be a varsity only contest. The Lady Raider game will tip at 4:00 p.m. followed by the Red Raiders at 5:30 p.m.
