School Board tables counselor contract, student trip

SIDNEY -- The Sidney School District Board of Education tabled action on a proposed student trip overseas and for a new guidance counselor.

The Sidney Schools Board of Education met Monday, February 13 with an agenda including a teacher contract for Allie Primm and an overnight travel request.

The travel request was for chaperoned Middle School students to take a five to seven day trip to Puerto Rico. The trip would be in relation to a language curriculum, managed by EF Explore America. 

The application was not completed. Sidney School District Superintendent Jay. Ehler said trip organizers see how the process works. 

"I think they wanted to know if it is worth trying," he said.

The school board made it clear they are not opposed to the trip; they want more information. Typically, the District provides transportation to a from the airport.

No date or number of students and adults were defined in the application.

Primm's recommendation for a staff position was was initially sought to be expedited so she can give notice. However, it was tabled until the contract is ready.

The board also accepted the resignation of high school physical education teacher Matt Denker. Denker. In his resignation, Denker said he couldn't have asked for a better situation for his first year as a certified teacher. He is resigning to take a PE job in North Platte.
