SIDNEY – For the second time in Tyler Shaw’s 17-year tenure as head coach of the Sidney girls basketball program, the Lady Raiders have won 22 games in a season. They accomplished that feat with a 53-25 win over Western Conference foe Alliance Tuesday night at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The first time came in the 2018-2019 season when Sidney finished 22-4 and earned their third consecutive trip to the state tournament.

The Lady Raiders again set the tone for the game with their defense. Sidney forced 12 Alliance turnovers that the Lady Raiders turned into 13 first quarter points while holding the Bulldogs to just one field goal. Six Sidney players combined to score 20 points and take a 20-2 lead into the second period.

Sidney extended their lead to 24-4 in the second before Alliance regrouped with a 9-0 run to cut the Lady Raider lead to 24-13 with 2:28 to go in the half. Alliance would get no closer the rest of the game as Sidney rallied and finished the half with a 29-13 advantage.

Chloe Ahrens, Kierra Schrader, and Kayla Westby all hit three pointers in the third quarter while the Lady Raiders held Alliance to one for 15 shooting to go up 38-16 at the in the period. On the night Sidney made 11 three-pointers led by Karsyn Leeling with four. Leeling finished with a game-high 14 points Kayla Westby chipped in eight points for Sidney. Catherine Bryner paced the Bulldogs with 12 points.

Up next for Sidney will be the B-8 subdistrict which the 22-1 Lady Raiders will host as the number one seed. Tournament brackets and game times will be released on Friday.
