A North Platte Public School teacher is in jail and accused of sexually assaulting a student.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- A North Platte Public School teacher is in jail and accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Officials said 46-year-old David Cooper was arrested on Wednesday at the high school.

North Platte Police said staff reported the incident to the school's resource officer on Tuesday.

According to authorities, they believe Cooper had sexual contact with a 17-year-old student.

Cooper is reportedly listed as a math teacher.

The district said they could not comment on specifics but said in a statement that they will continue to work with law enforcement throughout the investigation.
