Eagles notes: Chadron State splits with Colorado School of Mines

CHADRON, Neb. -- March 19, 2023 -- The Chadron State softball team split games one and two of their series with Colorado School of Mines, Sunday in Chadron.
The Eagles move to 8-17 overall and 6-12 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Orediggers are now 9-15 overall and 8-10 in the RMAC.
The Orediggers scored four runs in the top of the third during game one. An error by the CSC defense allowed three runs to score for the visitors. The following batter singled to
center field, adding the fourth run.
CSC scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a Sloane Quijas sacrifice fly that scored Mackenzie Kroll.
Quijas added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning that would score Chloe Brown. The Eagles were unable to add another run, falling 4-2.
Sadriena Rodriguez pitched the complete game victory for Colorado School of Mines. In seven innings, she allowed seven hits, struck out six CSC batters and walked four.
Tori Haug received the loss for CSC.
In game two, Delaney Farnsworth would match her season high of ten strikeouts for CSC and Brady Laucomer hit a solo home run, helping CSC earn a 4-0 victory.
A bases loaded walk allowed Quijas to score to start the scoring in the top of the third.
Laucomer gave CSC a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth with a solo home run, her first of the season.
Chadron State added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. J'lyssa Martinez started the action with an RBI single, scoring Jessi Henchenski.
An error by the Oredigger defense allowed Quijas to reach first base and Martinez rounded the bases to add the fourth run.
Farnsworth allowed three hits in the complete game shutout.
The victory was CSC's first shutout win since March 14, 2022, when they defeated Northern State 2-0.
The two teams are back in action tomorrow. Game one will begin at 11 a.m., with game two following.
Golf finishes round one tied 12th
PUEBLO, Colo. -- March 19, 2023 -- The Chadron State College golf team finished day one of the Pack Classic in Pueblo, Colorado in 12th place.
Colorado Christian is leading the tournament after round one with a score of 299. CSC shot 325.
Kenzey Kanno led the group on day one for the Eagles. Kanno finished her round with a 77 (+5).
Two birdies, a bogey and a double bogey had Kanno at +1 (37) on the traditional front nine. A trio of bogeys, one birdie and a double bogey on the back nine ender her day tied 22nd. She started her round on hole 14.
Kanno is currently tied for first in Par 4 Scoring, finishing round one even.
Brooke Kramer and Jordan Grasis both shot 82 (+10).
A triple bogey on hole four hurt Grasis's round. She started on hole 13 and was at +2 before the triple. After the triple, she had five bogeys.
Kramer shot +4 on the traditional front nine and +6 on the back. Starting on hole 12, her first two holes resulted in a bogey and double bogey. Over the next six holes, she had one bogey and a birdie.
The next ten holes had five bogeys, a double bogey, and four pars.
The duo is tied 54th.
Alpine Hickstein and Kinsey Smith are tied 61st after shooting an 84 (+12).
Competing as an individual, Allison Acosta finished +6 (78), tying her for 28th.
Round two of the Pack Classic will conclude Monday.
