SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Commissioners this morning addressed how to reimburse costs for traveling employees.

The discussion focused on the example of a deputy assigned to a transport, and the cost of meals while on duty. Sheriff Adam Frerichs said the department does a lot of transports, and drive-through menus have become expensive. He said the GSA (General Services Administration) recommends a $59 per diem based on $13 for breakfast, $15 for lunch, $26 for dinner and $5 for incidental expenses.

Frerichs questioned the per-meal costs as a little low. However, the total daily costs of $59 is acceptable. The commissioners approved a per diem rate of $64 total. Commission Chairman Darrell Johnson said as long as expenses remain within the per diem amount --  $64 per day -- there isn't a concern.
