While a massive winter storm is dropping inches of snow on the northern panhandle, Kimball almost missed its latest brush with winter weather. Ice has been, and will continue to be the biggest problem in Kimball County. Less of an inch of total snow is forecast.
"The city [of Kimball] has chosen not to declare any emergency snow route's" City Administrator Annette Brower said. "We would like to remind everyone that the road conditions are still hazardous due to cold temperatures and icy conditions, stay safe and drive carefully if you need to travel," she continued.
Kimball Public Schools were delayed until 10 a.m. as a result of the storm. Potter-Dix Schools are enjoying a snow day, and across the state line Pine Bluffs Schools are remote learning today. A number of local businesses announced later opening times as well.
Winds could create blizzard conditions by blowing what little snow we have around later in the day and this evening, reducing visibility and potentially closing roads. Temperatures will not be back above freezing until Thursday, meaning the ice will continue to cause problems for the next 48 hours.
