NU Notes: Huskers Sweep Purdue on Senior Day

The No. 47 Nebraska men's tennis team (12-7, 4-2 Big Ten) defeated Purdue (2-15, 0-5 Big Ten) 4-0 in the team's home finale of the 2023 season at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 47 Nebraska men's tennis team (12-7, 4-2 Big Ten) defeated Purdue (2-15, 0-5 Big Ten) 4-0 in the team's home finale of the 2023 season at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
 
Nebraska got off to a strong start in doubles play with Roni Hietaranta and Shunya Maruyama defeating Mujtaba Ali-Khan and Julen Morgan 6-1 on Court 3. The Huskers clinched the 1-0 lead on Court 1 as Calvin Mueller and Lars Johann defeated Daniel Labrador and Tomasz Dudek 6-3.
 
The final doubles match went unfinished with William Gleason and Nic Wiedenhorn leading Michal Wozniak and Milledge Cossu 5-4.
 
In between the doubles and singles matches, Nebraska honored Gleason, a graduate student from Lincoln, who played in his final home match this afternoon.
 
The Big Red continued to extend its lead in singles, as Johann picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win on Court 3 over Ali-Khan. Wiedenhorn followed that win with one of his own, taking down Morgan 6-3, 6-4 on Court 6.
 
Gleason clinched the win for Nebraska on Court 4, as he defeated Cossu 7-5, 6-2.
 
The remaining three matches went unfinished. On Court 1, Hietaranta was leading Wozniak 7-5, 5-2. Maruyama was down 3-6, 5-3 on Court 2 against Labrador. Mueller was leading 6-4, 3-5 against Dudek on Court 5.
 
Nebraska finishes with a 7-2 record the Dillon Center, the most wins at home since 2018 when the team went 8-6.
 
Up next, the Huskers hit the road to take on No. 27 Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., on Friday, April 14, at 6 p.m. CT and on Sunday against No. 23 Illinois at 12 p.m. CT in Urbana, Ill.

Stott Earns Podium Finish at British Nationals

Shannon Stott and Maia Hall spent the past week competing at the six-day 2023 British Swimming Championships, hosted at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield, England.

Stott recorded a trio of A Final qualifications and two school records throughout the six days. In the 400m freestyle, Stott earned a podium finish, claiming the bronze medal with a long-course school record time of 4:13.87. That time is six seconds faster than Stott's previous best.

In the 200m butterfly, Stott added a record-breaking performance in the final. With a 2:12.78, Stott placed seventh. She touched the wall at 2:01.35 in the 200m freestyle A Final to finish eighth. Stott wrapped up her week with a B Final swim in the 100m butterfly, clocking a 1:01.81 in the finals.

Hall placed sixth in the 100m breaststroke B Final with a time of 1:11.32. She added a 200m breaststroke bonus final win with a career-best 2:32.91. In the 50m breaststroke prelim, Hall clocked a 33.36 to place 30th. In the 200m IM, Hall finished 32nd in 2:23.76.
