SIDNEY -- The Sidney City Council Tuesday approved work on the south shop at Greenwood Cemetery.

In his presentation to the city council, Parks and Cemetery Superintendent Tom Von Seggern said the south shop is the original equipment storage facility and office at Greenwood Cemetery. The irrigation water well is located at the south shop. A hatch is needed in the roof for access for water well repairs. The Cemetery staff have also identified leaks and deterioration of the shop roof and ceiling. The original roof did not have a proper vapor barrier, resulting in condensation of moisture to drip down from the underside of the roof.

City staff issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) in early February, and sent a copy of the proposal to local roofing companies with no replies as of the March 7 deadline. RFPs were again sent out with a March 29 deadline. The City received some inquiries but no returned bids. Staff then contacted four companies; two showed interest and one submitted a bid by the April 4 deadline.

The bid, by Weathercraft Companies, of Ogallala, McCook and Brush, Colo., submitted a bid of $13,589, slightly less than the budgeted $13,650.
