Power outage hits downtown Sidney

SIDNEY -- City of Sidney officials reported a power outage this morning. The outage impacted traffic lights, businesses and cell phone customers reported outages as well.

911 Center reporting technical issues; 911 still working

SIDNEY -- City of Sidney officials reported a power outage this morning.

In a statement posted on social media about 8:55 a.m., City officials said "We are experiencing a power outage this morning. This has affected our phones in the offices as we can't call out or receive calls. Crews are working to restore it as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience."

The outage impacted traffic lights, businesses and cell phone customers reported outages as well. 

10th Avenue businesses north of Illinois Street reported power returning shortly after 9 a.m.

The outage was caused by a squirrel, according to City Manager David Scott. As of 9:39 a.m., power and Verizon cellular service should be returned. Officials are unsure what is causing a disruption in landline service.

The Cheyenne County 911 reported technical issues as well.

"We are experiencing technical issues today and you may not be able to reach our communications center via our non-emergent phone lines.
