Police arrest student after threats made towards Sidney High School

According to the Sidney Police Department, witnesses told law enforcement a high school student told other classmates not to go to school tomorrow (Friday), because he was "going to shoot it up."

SIDNEY - Authorities are investigating a threat made to Sidney High School on Thursday afternoon. 

According to the Sidney Police Department, witnesses told law enforcement a high school student told other classmates not to go to school tomorrow (Friday), because he was "going to shoot it up."

School officials contacted authorities and placed the school building in a hold at 1:52 p.m. When law enforcement arrived, the student had already left for the day.

The student was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident. The hold on the school has since been lifted and authorities say the threat is no longer active.

Anyone with additional information concerning this incident are encouraged to call the police Department at (308) 254-5515 and ask to speak with an officer.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff's office also responded to the scene.
