Eagles have more success at RMAC Meet
Chadron State College athletes had more success Saturday during the second day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships that they are hosting this weekend.

CHADRON, Neb. -- April 30, 2023 -- Chadron State College athletes had more success Saturday during the second day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships that they are hosting this weekend.
While the winners of 20 races on the track and seven field events will be decided Sunday, Eagles earned points by placing in the five of the handful of finals that took place Saturday.
After winning the women's hammer throw on Friday, senior Kyla Sawvell of Wall, S.D., was the runner-up in the discus Saturday afternoon by sailing the platter 44.22 meters, or 145 feet, 1 inch. It was the fourth time in Sawvell's spectacular career that she been the discus silver medalist. She'll be going after her third consecutive shot put gold medal on Sunday.
Chadron State also placed in the men's discus, when Parker Gonser of Windsor, Colo., was fifth with a career best throw of 48.09 meters (157-9).
Two CSC men also placed in the decathlon. Senior Harley Rhoades of Douglas, Wyo., scored 6,261 points while finishing fourth, and sophomore Kaden Dower of Riverton, Wyo., totaled 5,386 points and was sixth. They placed fifth and eighth, respectively, in last year's RMAC decathlon. Rhoades scored 310 more points this year for his career-high.
The Eagles' Destiny Pelton of Fort Morgan, Colo., also placed sixth in the high jump Saturday when she cleared 5-foot-1.
Three additional Eagles qualified for Sunday's finals on the track.
That includes junior Creighton Trembly of Longmont, Colo., who turned in the fastest time of 14.22 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles. That's his career-best. The only Chadron State hurdler to ever run the race faster is Karl McFarland, who set the RMAC record of 14-seconds flat in 2013.
The other CSC qualifiers Saturday were Carlie Collier of Dunning, Neb., who ran the 200 meters in 24.97 seconds and Logan Moravec of Gering, whose time in the 800 meters in 1:54.48. Both are seniors.
Among the event winners Saturday was Emily Malouf of Westminster College, who won the discus for the second year in a row with a fling of 48.57 meters, or 159 feet, 4 inches using English measurement.
The men's discus was won by Jordan Larson of Adams State at 163 feet, 8 inches.
Other winners in the men's competition Saturday were Albert Hesse of Western Colorado, 3000 steeplechase, 9:09.45; Hunter Potrykus of Colorado Mines, pole vault, 16-6; and Terrell Johnson of Colorado State-Pueblo, decathlon, 6,756 points.
Additional gold medalists in the women's events were included Josie Coffey of Colorado Mesa, high jump, 5-5 ¼; Allison Beasley of Western Colorado, steeplechase. 10:34.41; and Mica Jenrette of Colorado Mesa, heptathlon, 4,884 points. The latter are 115 points more than Jenrette tallied while also winning the grueling event last year.
