SIDNEY -- A group of motorcyclists will stop in Sidney Saturday morning. The tour is part of the National Veterans Awareness Organization ride.
The ride is from California to Washington, D.C., with community stops along the way. Saturday's route includes a stop at Love's Truck Stop after driving from Cheyenne, Wyo. The Sidney stop is scheduled for bikers to arrive in Sidney about 9:30 a.m. from Interstate 80 and stopping at Love's Truck Stop for about 30 minutes before continuing on to Grand Island.
Residents and local supporters are encouraged to arrive near the exit or at the truck stop by 9:30 a.m. with U.S. flags to wave in support of the bikers. Traffic will be stopped as bikers make their way from the I-80 eastbound offramp to Loves, and from Loves to the eastbound ramp onto I-80.
In his blog post from the road, Mike (Track) Rinowski wrote about "The times they are a changin'," using the title of the Bob Dylan song to open the column.
"Change is more abrupt than evolution, which is a process of gradual development. To speak of each; since A.D. 25, a white flag has been the accepted method of surrender. All of a sudden, Russian soldiers can call the Ukrainian hot line, “I want to live”, for instructions on how and where to surrender! Since 2005, the National Veterans Awareness Organization (NVAO) has patiently matured. Technology will never change the mission of the NVAR," said Rinowski.
The National Veterans Awareness Organization (NVAO) traces its history to 2005. It is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to honoring all veterans. NVRO members come from the U.S. and Europe from diverse backgrounds. The group comes together with one common goal — to remember and honor those who have defended the United States.
The mission of NVAO is to remember, honor and support veterans and those currently serving in all branches of the military. This is accomplished through local activities for veterans and participation in the National Veterans Awareness Ride.
