SIDNEY - Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne. Some of the storms could be severe.

The NWS placed Cheyenne, Kimball, Morrill, Banner, Scotts Bluff, Box Butte, Dawes, and Sioux Counties in Nebraska in a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. Friday. According to the weather service, some of the storms could produce damaging winds and large hail, and an isolated tornado can't be ruled out.

Logan County in northeast Colorado, and Laramie and Goshen Counties in southeast Wyoming, are also included in the weather alert.

An extended forecast calls for daily chances of showers and thunderstorms to continue through the weekend. The NWS says another round of gusty winds, heavy rainfall and large hail are possible again with storms on Saturday.

Storm coverage may decrease somewhat for Sunday through Tuesday, then possibly increase again midweek, according to the NWS.
