LAS VEGAS - All Mike Daum wanted this summer was a shot to play in front of NBA scouts for the first time in four years.

That opportunity came knocking when his agent called and told him he would be training with and playing for the Sacramento Kings during the 2023 NBA Summer League slate in July.

"An amazing experience and a really, really great opportunity that I felt like I took full advantage of," Daum said. "Now, I'm just hanging out and waiting to see what's going to happen, but it's looking like I'm probably going to head back to Italy for one more year. It definitely was an amazing experience to be able to play the best talent in the world and see where I stacked up against them."

Daum, 28, says the feedback he received after the summer league was nothing but positive and his agent is exploring opportunities for a return to the United States.

The 2014 Kimball High School alum has been playing professional basketball in Europe since graduating as the eighth all-time scorer in NCAA history, 3,067 points, at South Dakota State in 2019. Daum averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in 25 games for Derthona (Italy) during the 2022-23 season.

He lead the Longhorns to the Nebraska School Activities Association Boys State Basketball Tournament in 2013 before becoming the 10th player in NCAA Division 1 basketball history to score 3,000 career points. He racked up three Summit League Player of the Year awards, was a three-time honorable mention All-American and is the all-time leading scorer at SDSU.

Daum's experience playing basketball overseas allowed him to see the game at a different pace, a trait, he says, gave him an edge coming into the NBA Summer League.

"Kind of allows me to slow it down," Daum said. "I know that I don't have to rush. I can just play my game, play my style. I felt like that helped me out and really showed my skill-set to the scouts who haven't seen me since the last summer league I played in four-years-ago."

Daum played for the Portland Trailblazers during the 2019 NBA Summer League.

He enters the offseason with plans to marry his fiance, Taylor Agost, in early August in Portland, Ore.
