Deuel County Sheriff's Office investigating vehicle entering church lawn

The Deuel County. Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident when an SUV left the road and drove upon the St. Joseph's Catholic Church lawn in Chappell.

Vehicle identified. Authorities searching for driver

CHAPPELL -- At about 7:45 p.m. July 20, a dark-colored SUV traveling westbound on Second Street in Chappell approaching Thompson Avenue crossed over the eastbound lane and drove up on the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church lawn.

The vehicle hit the wooden bench and the large flower pot. Sending the flower pot into the west bench causing damage to the bench as well. The vehicle then backed up and headed south on Thompson Avenue, fleeing the scene prior to the Sheriffs Office deputies arrival.
 
The vehicle was described as a dark colored SUV, possibly black, plates were either 78 county or 68 county, with front end damage on the drivers side and flat drivers side front tire.
On Monday, July 24, authorities said the vehicle had been identified. Authorities are still seeking the identity of the driver.
