Weekend cut to be determined Saturday at Nebraska Amateur
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -- The weekend cut at the Nebraska Amateur Golf Championship won't happen until the actual weekend.
The first two rounds won't be completed until Saturday morning, meaning much of the field will be sticking around Scottsbluff for at least an extra day.
The top round one scores belonged to Matthew Schaefer, Charlie Zielinski and Connor Steichen, all of whom shot a 5-under 67.
"This was really gettable today with how I was playing," said Steichen, who will be a senior at Creighton Prep this fall. "Really soft, not very much wind, so I was really looking to score well today. I'm happy with how I played."
Also, of note, former NFL running back Danny Woodhead was 3-over in his opening round.
All of the competitors were expected to start their second rounds on Friday, though some weren't scheduled to tee off until 7:30 p.m. MT, meaning some spill-over into the weekend.
The delays have been a result of heavy rains that hit the Panhandle all day Thursday.
