SIDNEY -- Law enforcement, first responders and other agencies gathered among adults and children of the Sidney community for "National Night Out."

"This is our fourth year of doing this event. It is so much fun," said Plains West CASA Director Krista Bruns.

The annual event that encourages an interaction between First Responders and the community was held at the Sidney Aquatic Center Tuesday, August 1. The event brought together families, children, law enforcement, EMTs, Region 21 Emergency Management and firefighters.

"Seeing children and adults interact with first responders at our event was deeply rewarding. It breaks down barriers and fosters a sense of community and trust," said Cory Keen, president of the Plains West CASA board of directors.

He said seeing the open conversations, smiles and shared laughter served to humanize the brave people who serve the Sidney and Cheyenne County community.

"These positive interactions are invaluable for nurturing an environment of safety and respect," he said. "Being a part of this event was an incredible honor. The sense of camaraderie, the shared commitment to safety, and the joy of bringing our community closer together, it's all immensely fulfilling. As the president of Plains West CASA, it's gratifying to know we are making a tangible impact and strengthening the bonds within our community."

The night included free swimming, games, a dunk tank, and free drawings.

"In reflecting on tonight's event, I'm filled with pride. The strength and unity our community displayed underscore that a strong community is a safe one. I know the entire board of CASA, most here tonight, are grateful and excited for our future. We'll continue to build safe spaces and foster this community spirit."
