Fund established for Emily Goble

SIDNEY -- Madison Verhulst, of Mooresville, N.C., recently announced a gofundme effort to in support of Emily Goble.
"I am raising funds for my best friend Emily. I have been with her through so many life-hardening experiences since we met in 2009," Verhulst said in the gofundme post.
Verhulst says Goble has been through numerous health issues, including a kidney transplant in 2019. She said she is facing health issues including epilepsy and digestive issues. Her health issues have cost her her last four jobs. She has been unsuccessful in finding a job that accommodates her needs, even after explaining them, according to Verhulst.
Verhulst describes the U.S. health care system as a mess. That is where the gofundme effort comes in. The gofundme will help Emily with with prescription and medical appointment costs. She does not qualify for disability because of her many symptoms are not listed under one label. Her various health issues make it difficult to work.
The effort was started July 23, and is near the goal: $1,370 of a $2,000 goal.
She is promoting her Etsy business: "Lettering By Emily."
In 2017 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that proceeded to destroy my kidneys and part of my vision," Goble said on a social media page. "2019 I was blessed to receive a kidney through a directed deceased donation. My new kidney (who I've fondly named "Bernice") is still doing great!"
She said when someone gets their transplanted organ, many people assume that person is healed, healthy, and completely fine.
"While that is partially true, not everyone knows about the post-transplant struggles! Medicare only covers a kidney recipient for 36 months after transplant. After that, a recipient has to find a full time job so that they can get insurance coverage and not even all insurance companies cover transplant medications (especially if you take medications that aren't the average ones)," Goble said.
She said she has always been a complex case and post-transplant hasn't been any different. Between being immunocompromised due to transplant medications, two bouts of covid, a blood-clotting disorder, medications that make my stomach act up in the worst and most inconvenient ways, and now newfound neurological problems, I have been unable to maintain a traditional job.
I have now found myself without an income, yet still needing to pay my living expenses and trying to get out of the hole that life has tossed me into until my lettering business can fill that financial need.
She has been working hard at her new business, "Lettering by Emily," a wedding and stationary business.
"My parents have been amazing helping me in all the ways and I am choosing to reach out to a larger community to help take the financial weight off of my family! I'm reaching out for help getting back on my feet financially during this time. Your financial help will go towards rent, utilities, car payment/ insurance, tires, glasses, medication not covered by medicaid, etc.. I do have medicaid for basic medical and my food needs are covered," Goble said.
