PANHANDLE -- A Flash Flood Warning has been issued until 10:30 a.m. for Cheyenne County. 

The National Weather Service in North Platte added southwestern Garden County to the warning.

SOUTH CENTRAL CHEYENNE COUNTY... At 847 AM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 2 hours. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.

Flash flooding is ongoing. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Law Enforcement reports. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Police have reported flooding on local roads. There is one report of a vehicle stuck in high water. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Sidney, Sidney Airport and Lorenzo. This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 55 and 63.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Pay attention to local law enforcement when approaching flooded roads. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
