NORTHEAST COLORADO -- Numerous reports have been made of spikes and nails found in the roadways of counties in Northeast Colorado recently.

At about 9 a.m. August 21, Yuma resident Sara Rogers Wood was driving near Lone Star when she noticed two cars with flat tires, two miles west of Colorado Highway 59 on the Lone Star road near road E.

When she stopped to investigate, she noticed spikes stuck in the road along a line of tar. Sara pulled out the spikes with a pair of pliers then notified the authorities.

Anyone with information should contact the Yuma County Sheriff's Department.

On August 24, the Washington County (Colorado) Sheriff's Office received another report of nails in the roadway in the Lone Star area. These were found at Country Road YY and Country Road 56.
Please be careful when driving in this area. We will be patrolling the area looking for additional spots, and if found, we will remove them.

The WCSO is now offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the cowardly individual(s) who are doing this. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is coordinating with Yuma County Sheriff's Office and their reward of $500 so a total award of $1,000 can be given out for information in this case.
