WNCC women, men earn wins over Central Wyoming

Tania Razo scored two goals and the Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team posted a 4-0 shutout win over Central Wyoming College in a non-conference contest Monday in Casper, Wyoming.

                CASPER, Wyo. – Tania Razo scored two goals and the Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team posted a 4-0 shutout win over Central Wyoming College in a non-conference contest Monday in Casper, Wyoming. 

                The Cougars took control of the game early with three goals in the first half and never looked back. 

                WNCC’s first goal came just three minutes into the game as sophomore Razo who took a pass from Ashly VillaGomez for the 1-0 lead.  

                The second goal came from freshman Yasmin Urbina who scored off an assist from Razo. It was Urbina’s third straight match that she has scored a goal. And it came in the eighth minutes. 

                The Cougars went up 3-0 as Sara Lourenco scored off an assist from Urbina to make it 3-0 on a kick into the middle of the net. 

                WNCC made it 4-0 in the first half when Razo scored her second goal as she took an assist from Urbina for the goal as the team went into halftime up 4-0. 

                WNCC outshot Central Wyoming 23-13 as Razo had six shots in which three were on goal. Lesley Vasquez had five shots with four on goal while Urbina was a perfect 2-for-2 in shots along with Lourenco, who was 4-for-4 in shots. 

                Emily VillaGomez had nine saves in net for the Cougars.  

                WNCC, 1-1-1 on the season, will be back in action this weekend when they host Region IX Conference games with Northwest College on Friday and then Central Wyoming College on Saturday. Both women’s games start at 1 p.m. 

WNCC men capture second straight victory 

                CASPER, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team received goals from three different players as the Cougars downed Central Wyoming College 3-2 in a non-conference contest Monday in Casper, Wyoming. 

                WNCC goes to 2-1-1 on the season as they get ready for the Region IX Conference slate of games when they host Northwest College on Friday and Central Wyoming College on Saturday. Both matches have a start time of 3:30 p.m. 

                In Monday’s contest, Freshman Lucas Ovalle got things started in the first half when he scored off an assist from Pablo Dominguez.  

                Central Wyoming came back and tied it as Dorian Penner scored. But the tie was short-lived as Isrrael Rodriquez scored to put the Cougars up 2-1 off an assist from Sebastian Arenas. 

                The Rustlers tied the match at halftime when Pedro da Costa scored to send the teams into halftime at 2-2. 

                The second half saw just one goal as Simon Echeverry scored off an assist from Adolfo Rojas for the go-ahead goal. After that, the Cougar defense held Central Wyoming without a goal. 

                WNCC’s goalkeepers Hernan Burdiles and Joao Bisneto each came on strong in net. 

                WNCC had 10 shots in the contest compared to two for the Rustlers.
