SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Commissioners today approved a Special Designated Liquor License for Sidney's Oktoberfest Celebration.

The Oktoberfest is scheduled for October 6-8 at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds.

"This is our 49th. Next year is our 50th, so we're hoping to do something bigger. So, if you have any clues on entertainment bands, let me know," Sally Harris said to the commissioners.

The committee has about eight faithfully, and 12 planning the event.

The Oktoberfest has a variety of entertainment, the ceremonial "tapping of the keg," numerous food varieties from brats and 'kraut to burgers and dessert. Entertainment often includes various high school groups in addition to local and regional talent.

The Special Designated Liquor License request was approved 3-0.

The commissioners also approved a Letter of Engagement with Dana Cole & Company for covering of Cheyenne County audit of financial statements. The agreement is for $18,000.

The commissioners also approved declaration of September 17-23 as Constitution Week.

Glenda Condon, representing the Fort Sidney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, said DAR members have to be able to track their family history to the American Revolution; serving in the military, housing soldiers, or a list of other supportive roles. She said researching family history is interesting for family lineage and for understanding American history.

John "Rich" Fahey asked to amend the KENO procedures. He said two signatures are needed on every pay-out check. The two-signatures is a local requirement, according to commissioner discussion. County Attorney Paul Schaub encouraged the commissioners to first let the KENO fund get audited.

Meeting as the Board of Equalization, assessor Jordan Hajek presented a tax list correction for Money Express. The correction lower the value from $545,000 to a little more than $392,000.
