Eagles notes: Chadron State improves on day two, finish eighth

The Chadron State College golf team is coming home with an eighth place finish after playing three rounds at the Swan Memorial in Broomfield, Colorado.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- The Chadron State College golf team is coming home with an eighth place finish after playing three rounds at the Swan Memorial in Broomfield, Colorado.
 
The event, which was hosted by Colorado Christian, had a field of fourteen teams and was played at the Broadlands Golf Course.
 
Day two only consisted of round three for CSC, in which they shot +25 as a team.
 
Brooke Kramer, a senior from Aurora, Colorado, led the Eagles in round three, shooting a 73 (+1).
 
Kramer had three birdies, a bogey and one double-bogey on the front nine, before finishing with two birdies and a triple bogey on the back nice. She finished even on the front nine and lost the stroke on the back nine, placing her 12th overall.
 
Kinsey Smith, a senior from Windsor, Colorado, continued to improve her score in each round, firing a 74 (+2) on Saturday.
 
Smith finished +10 in round one and +6 in round two.
 
During round three, she had all pars except one bogey on hole four. Her scorecard looked identical on the back nine, having a bogey on hole 10. Smith finished the tournament tied 23rd.
 
After finishing in seventh place after the first two rounds, Jordan Grasis struggled in round three, shooting an 84 (+12)
 
Grasis, a senior from Yuma, Arizona, finished tied 15th in the tournament. She recorded one birdie, three bogeys and one double and quad bogey on the front nine. The back nine consisted of six bogeys and two birdies.
 
Aubree Heinsma, a sophomore from Windsor, Colorado and Kenzey Kanno, a senior from Mitchell, Nebraska, each shot +11 (83) in round three.
 
Heinsma had a birdie, one bogey and three double-bogeys on the front nine. The back nine consisted of one birdie, four bogeys and a double-bogey on her scorecard.
 
Only one bogey and one double-bogey found Kanno's scorecard on the front nine. The back nine consisted of two doubles and four bogeys.
 
Competing unattached, Allison Acosta, a senior from Oro Valley, Arizona, tied her best round of the weekend finishing +9 (81).
 
Payton Wise, a sophomore from Kimball, Nebraska, also competed unattached and finished +13 (85) today.
 
The Eagles are back in action on Monday, September 18, when they make the short trip to Rapid City, South Dakota, for the Hardrocker Invite.

Eagles split day two in Florida

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Chadron State volleyball team finished 1-1 on day two of the Rollins Invitational in Winter Park, Florida, making their record 2-2 over the tournament and 4-3 overall.
 
The Eagles swept Tusculum 25-18, 25-22 and 25-23 in match one. Auburn University – Montgomery won in straight sets against CSC in match two, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-10.
 
Against Tusculum, a Kally Kirkwood kill gave CSC a 11-10 lead in set one and CSC held the lead for the remainder of the set.
 
In set two while trailing 19-18, Chadron State scored seven of the sets last ten points to earn the victory. The final set saw the Eagles lead from start to finish to complete the three-set victory.
 
Chadron State outhit their opponent .220 to .136 in the victory.
 
Lexi Hurtado and Mayson Fago each had eight kills in the match to lead the Eagles. Hurta.348 do, a graduate student from Aurora, Colorado had an attack percentage of .348.
 
Aiyana Fujiyama, a junior from Wahiawa, Hawaii and Kirkwood, a freshman from Fleming, Colorado, each had seven kills in the victory. Kirkwood led the team with an attack percentage of .389 while Fujiyama finished at .375.
 
Setter Kendyl Kirkwood, a junior from Fleming, had a match high 26 assists.
 
At the net defensively, Hurtado, Fujiyama and Bella Adams, a sophomore from Pueblo, Colorado, each had four blocks.
 
Alondra Hernandez, a junior from Provo, Utah, Hurtado and Kendyl Kirkwood all finished with double-digit digs. Hernandez led the group and match with 17, while Hurtado had 15 and Kirkwood had 11.
 
The Eagles fell to 4-3 after losing in three-sets the AUM.
 
CSC led 4-3 in set one but their opponent scored the next six points to gain the lead for good.
 
AUM opened set two with a 9-3 scoring run and had a 12-2 scoring run in set three to earn the victory in both.
 
Chadron State was outhit in the match .337 to .048.
 
Hurtado led CSC with eight kills while Fago, a senior from Evans, Colorado had six.
 
Kendyl Kirkwood led the team with 14 assists offensively and had one service ace. Fujiyama recorded three blocks while Hernandez had eight digs in the loss.
 
CSC returns to action on Friday, September 15, when they travel to Golden, Colorado for a matchup with Colorado School of Mines.
