SIDNEY – Sidney’s free summer concert series will be under new direction in 2024.

Flood Communications - owner of Sidney radio stations 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country - was announced as the new organization to lead the Downtown Sounds effort beginning next summer.

“I’m pleased to see the local downtown concert series will continue and I’m grateful to Flood Communications and 987 The Big Boy for taking the reins,” City of Sidney City Manager David Scott said. “The Downtown Sounds concert series is not only a pleasant family-friendly event for local residents, but an economic driver, bringing people from surrounding counties and states to see what Sidney has to offer.”

987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country have sponsored Downtown Sounds since 2020. The event features local and regional music artists across all genres, including country, folk, and classic and modern rock. Along with live music, there are food booths, a beer garden, and games and prizes.

Flood Communications – Western Nebraska Station Manager Hunter Arterburn, who has served as the event’s master of ceremonies since 2020, says they’re thrilled to be a part of this community celebration every summer and look forward to sharing what’s new with the event next year.

“It shouldn’t go without mentioning the hard work, dedication and effort the Cheyenne County Chamber put forward to create, build and establish such a fun, family-friendly event the last several years,” Arterburn said. “It’s been fun to watch this event grow in popularity, and we’re honored we were even considered to help lead the effort of this Sidney summer tradition moving forward.”

Despite being a country music radio station, Arterburn says Downtown Sounds will continue to highlight a variety of different music genres from local, regional and national artists.

“Country music will always be our passion,” Arterburn said. “It’s part of the backbone of our agricultural area, but when you’re cooking your family dinner or working out (we hope you give The Big Boy a little bit of time), who doesn’t like to listen to a variety of music. We’re the same the way. We already have a group of community members hard at work organizing next year’s event and scheduling artists with a different music backgrounds.”

The 2024 Downtown Sounds concert dates and music lineup are expected to be released in the near future. If you’re interested in being a part of Downtown Sounds next summer, please email [email protected] or call (308) 254-5803.

More information about next summer’s event will be released on newschannelnebraska.com and on The Big Boy 987 social media sites.
