No injuries in Ogallala structure fire

Ogallala fire fighters were able to prevent a potentially catastrophic attic fire at a structure in the city on Thursday evening.

OGALLALA - Ogallala fire fighters were able to prevent a potentially catastrophic attic fire at a structure in the city on Thursday evening. 

Officials with the Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department say a fire officer in the vicinity reported smoke coming from the Humphreys building vents and openings. 

A Keith County wide page was called out at 6:16 p.m. Fire fighters were able to gain control of the blaze in about 20 minutes. Crews remained on scene for approximately four hours. 

Highway 30 in Ogallala was closed while crews battled the blaze. 

A drone was used by Keith County Emergency Management to assist with roof top operations. 

No injuries were reported. The building was saved by not habitable at this time, according to fire officials. 

The Nebraska State Fire Marshall's office in investigating the fire. 

Regional West Ambulance, Ogallala Police Department, Keith County Sheriff's office, Nebraska State Patrol, and Keystone-Lemoyne, Brule, and Paxton Volunteer Fire Departments all responded to the scene.
