SIDNEY -- An estimated 300 people attended an open house Thursday celebrating the completion of Platte Valley Bank's renovation.

Bill Butkus, General Lender/Loan Administration Supervisor for Platte Valley Bank in Sidney, said the remodel process started in 2022. The result is a bank that brings together history architecture and design with modern efficiencies.

"The board of directors of the Platte Valley companies as a whole wanted to make an investment in this community, make a substantial investment to update and modernize our facility for the ease of customer use, and just to make an investment in this community, show that we're here and we're here to help other businesses with their needs, whether its a remodel, or anything else. We're just here for Sidney," said Bill Butkus, General Lender/Loan Administration Supervisor for Platte Valley Bank in Sidney.

Butkus explained the bank building most people recognize from the outside is actually two separate buildings.

"The project was the one side -- this is actually two buildings, the building that we're in (south side of the building) right now where my office is in was not part of the originally part of the bank building. The original bank building was built in 1916. This part (south side of the current bank at 10th Avenue and Illinois Street) was a department store," he said.

He said the store was purchased in the 1970s and added to the bank. He said this is the third remodel project since purchasing the department store. The last remodel project was done in 1998. The new look is more open with services more ADA-accessible. The bank is now ramp-accessible and there is a teller desk that is wheelchair-accessible.
