SIDNEY -- The Sidney Elks Lodge was the site for the second concert held in support of Cheyenne County veterans.

The October 28 concert was scheduled to feature two performers, Mud County from Logan County, Colo., and Sarah Carper from Wyoming. Carper was unable to make it because of weather.

This year's event included dinner options and a silent auction.

Fred Wiedeburg and Whitney Whatley of the Cheyenne County Veteran Service Office thanked the community for its support of the event.

Of the people and organizations thanked for their part in the event, Justin Langley was commended for the concept of a night honoring veterans. Langley, a U.S. Air Force veteran, served 10 years in the Security Forces, and then was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan for five years.

Langley said the vision of a veterans concert event started with a conversation.

"In the military, we always did a lot for each other," he said. ""Once I finally got home ... I wanted to make sure all of the local vets got together."

He said he was surprised at the number of older veterans, Vietnam era and older, who are in Cheyenne County, and attended the concert.

"This all is because of your desire to give back to your fellow veterans, and for that we are all so very appreciative," Wiedeburg and Whatley said in a written statement.

They also thanked the Sidney Elks Lodge No. 1894 for hosting the event, Mud County for providing the music, "Big Deal's BBQ" for the brisket and pulled pork nachos.
Larry Nelson was also thanked for his display of military service uniforms.

The night was also supported by the number of people and organizations who supported the silent auction with products and services for auction.

Proceeds from the event are used to support county veterans. Organizers are already looking toward next year's event. Langley said Mud County and Sara Carper are already interested in returning for the third event.
