Town hall meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday, November 13 in Kimball at The Sagebrush

CHEYENNE COUNTY -- Three town hall meetings are scheduled for November 14 to discuss the EPIC Option.

The EPIC Option is a proposal to redesign the tax revenue system to be more sales tax-based than property tax-based.

This is a tax option being discussed in Nebraska.

The town hall meetings start 7:30 a.m. at the Lodgepole Community Center; coffee and cinnamon rolls will be provided. The presentation then moves to the Dalton Senior Citizens Center at noon with sandwiches and cookies provided. The third meeting will be hosted by Jimmy L's Restaurant, 1412 10th Ave., Sidney, at 6:30 p.m. A cash bar and munchies will be offered with Happy Hour starting at 5:30 p.m.; park in the east lot across the street.

Joel Hunt and Mark Bonkiewicz will be the speakers at the meetings. Hunt represents District 47 Sen. Steve Erdman and Bonkiewicz is a spokesman for the 22-member EPIC Option strategy team.

According to the epicoption.org website, the EPIC plan would:
  • Eliminate all Nebraska property, income, inheritance, corporate, and sales taxes
  • Impose a Consumption Tax on all services and ONLY new goods at a rate below 8%
  • Place NO taxes on groceries.
